Community vision becomes reality as new Dell Play Park opens
After almost a decade of determination, fundraising and partnership working, the new Dell Play Park is now officially open, creating an exciting new space for local children and families.
The project began in 2016 when a small group of local volunteers, Friends of the Dell, set out to restore the much-loved park.
Since then, their vision has grown into one of Chepstow’s most significant community partnership projects, bringing together volunteers, Chepstow Town Council, Monmouthshire County Council, local businesses and community organisations.
The journey has included planning permission, archaeological investigations, environmental surveys and extensive fundraising. Throughout the project, Chepstow Town Council provided support at key stages, including grants for planning and archaeological work before committing £100,000 towards delivering the play park.
As families begin enjoying the new facilities, the play park stands as a lasting tribute to the dedication of the volunteers who never gave up on their vision. Friends of the Dell are already looking ahead to the next phase.
Vicky said, “I’m incredibly proud of us four women who were determined to get this off the ground and determined to see it through. It’s a massive achievement and we want to celebrate that, but we’re not ready to stop!”

Mayor’s Update
Cllr Vanessa Badderley-Potter, Chepstow Town Mayor, heads out past the castle
“3 to 5 July – Gwyl Hwyl Cas-gwent brought Welsh culture to Chepstow. From the lively Twmpath at The Drill Hall to the official festival opening, bustling street entertainment, craft market and concluding bilingual service, it was a fantastic weekend celebrating Welsh music, language and traditions.
11 July – I was honoured to represent Chepstow Town Council at the Civic Service for the new Mayor of Monmouth, Cllr Rob Barrell.
12 July – The Deputy Mayor and I were delighted to accept an invitation from the Chepstow-Cormeilles Twinning Association to celebrate Bastille Day, recognising the strong friendship between our twin towns.
24 July – I attended the open house to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Basecamp Cooperative Chepstow. A very interesting experience learning about this counselling establishment on the training of counsellors and the sliding scale services they provide. A really wonderful service for Chepstow.
25 July – I was delighted to visit SARA Beachley Station with fellow Town Councillors to learn more about the incredible work of its volunteers. Seeing their professionalism, including during a live callout, reinforced why I chose SARA as my Mayor’s Charity. Thank you to everyone for such a warm and informative welcome.”
